Serum complement and immunoconglutinin in malnutrition.
نویسنده
چکیده
Serum haemolytic complement activity and C3 were significantly decreased in 35 malnourished children. The changes were more pronounced in those with infection. Electrophoretically altered forms of complement C were detected in 14. There was an inverse correlation between C3 levels and immunoconglutinin titres. Nutritional rehabilitation and eradication of infection reversed the abnormalities. It is suggested that reduced complement function in malnutrition is the combined result of impaired synthesis, complement activation in vivo, and changes in plasma volume, and that it may contribute to an increased susceptibility to infection in undernourished individuals.

Immunoconglutinin and complement studies in congenital nephrotic syndrome and nephritis of Henoch-Schönlein purpura in children.
Several renal diseases are believed to have an immune pathogenesis; the evidence includes depression of serum complement and the demonstration of the glomerular deposition of complement components and immunoglobulin by immunofluorescence. However, the congenital nephrotic syndrome and the nephritis associated with HenochSchonlein purpura (HSP) are two diseases in which the role of immunopathoge...

Serum complement is valuable tool in determining the health status of fish. This study was conducted to examine in vitro activity of serum complement as an indicator of innate immunity in four sturgeon species, Acipenser stellatus, A. baeri, A. nudiventris and Huso huso (Chondrostei: Acipenseridae). The Effects of different temperatures, concentrations and volumes of serum on alternative comple...

Significantly higher levels of immunoconglutinin were found in the sera of 40 Cameroonian patients aged between 15 and 80 years with congestive cardiomyopathy than in a matched group of normal Cameroonian controls. C3 values were also abnormal in the group with congestive cardiomyopathy, and a negative correlation was found between the C3 and immunoconglutinin values, indicating complement inco...
